4,400-Mile 1983 DeLorean DMC-12 on Auction Is $25,000 with Six Days Left

Since we weren't born in a one million-acre estate populated by butlers, gardeners, and housemaids, we're not exactly the type to frequent that many high-end auctions. That doesn't mean we haven't enjoyed a tense bid-fight on e-Bay.

Winning an auction is a great feeling, even though if you think about it, it's not that great of an achievement: you were just able to pay more money that some other guys, that's all. You didn't best them with your wit, your cunning plan or a strategic thinking - nope, just a deeper wallet or greater willingness to spend on a certain object. Sorry to spoil your moment, but that's the truth.

The only person who really benefits from such a bid war is the seller, who only has to sit and watch as the asking price keeps going higher and higher. With a little over six days left (six days, five hours, 51 minutes, and five seconds, to be more precise), it's hard to tell if the owner of this DeLorean DMC-12 is going to be ecstatic or not, but we doubt the current bid is enough to make him happy.

The DeLorean DMC-12 is the kind of car that needs no introduction. For the uninitiated, though, it might seem like a very capable supercar, which it sadly isn't. The Peugeot-Renault-Volvo 2.85-liter V6 engine was designed specifically for this vehicle, but it wasn't exactly power-oriented. This particular car, however, is fitted with DMC's Stage II Performance package, which bumps the total output to 200 hp. In a fairly low weight car like this (1,230 kg or 2,712 lb), that means it'll have B-segment hot-hatch performances.

But whoever is going to buy this car won't do it for its power or its acceleration, but for the fact it's only got about 4,400 miles on its clock, and everything in it is completely original. Well, some of it is even better, because its second (and last) owner also installed the so-called DMC "Fix Everything" kit, replacing in the region of 40 items that the company had come to know they usually break over time.

The only real drawback for this iconic vehicle is the interior. A lot of people say that the worst thing about owning a classic car from the '80s or the '90s is the terrible quality of its interior and just by looking at these pictures, it's hard to argue against such a statement. Any interested buyer can take comfort knowing that it's all original (except the headliner) and - one very important aspect - the A/C works.

With just four bids so far, the current highest sits at just $25,000. We sincerely doubt that a DeLorean DMC-12 that's virtually new and also has dozens of upgrades that do nothing to dent its old-school appeal will sell for such a small price, but we would seriously envy the lucky winner if it did.

Hurry up, time is ticking.
