After the Talladega S Audi S8 and the RS6 Clubsport Avant, the guys from MTM are also doing some convertible work, in the shape of an upgraded S3. Upgraded might be an understatement if I think about it. To be honest, it seems like almost an entire rework but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
What we have here is a car that started off as a regular S3 which means it has a 2-liter TFSI 4-cylinder engine under the bonnet fitted with a turbocharger that gets 300 HP out of it along with 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque, incredible number all in their own way.
With those figures, the dynamic performance is really impressive, especially since the S3 comes with quattro as standard. That means that the 6-speed transmission will take it up to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds. That’s not enough for MTM though.
They managed to top even the record holder for 2-liter mills, the M133 plant from the A45 AMG, posting an incredible output of 426 HP and 530 Nm (390 lb-ft) of torque for the EA888 VAG plant.
That’s 213 HP per liter as opposed to the 180 HP/l of the Mercedes-Benz and yes, it’s damn impressive. Don’t think that is was all due to a new ECU tune. In doing so, the tuner installed a new turbocharger as well as a new exhaust to handle the extra fumes.
The usual acceleration benchmark is now done in 4.9 seconds while the top speed is limited at 270 km/h (168 mph). That’s plenty for a drop top!
Inside, you’ll notice the new seats that have carbon fiber backs and quilted leather for the front, all done in contrasting white sticking against the highest quality of leather.
To handle the extra grunt, new brakes were installed as well as some new wheels that, wearing black, contrast really nicely with the red calipers behind them. We actually like it! You can check it out at the Geneva Motor Show starting next week.
