4,000 HP Nissan GT-R Five-Car Drag Race Ends in High-Speed Offroad Crash

Nowadays, factory stock Nissan GT-Rs are no longer fashionable. Instead, aftermarket-massaged incarnations of the Godzilla have taken over. And while this didn't seem bound to happen back in 2007 when the R35 incarnation of the JDM delight was introduced, most of these Nissans are aiming for drag racing glory.

As you can imagine, such velocity adventures aren't without their troubles, as a recent GT-R group drag brawl has demonstrated.

The battle we're talking about is a five-car stunt, one that saw the GT-Rs going at it on an airfield. These Nissans have around 4,000 horses between them and their drivers weren't afraid to weld the throttle throughout the quarter-mile showdown.

Alas, just as the beasts were crossing the finish line, one of the drivers lost control. His GT-R went off the runway at tremendous speed, heading for an offroading stint.

Such a stunt could've easily led to the supercar flipping, but, fortunately, that wasn't the case. In fact, the driver even managed to avoid the lights on the side of the runway, with the Nissan appearing to have sustained minimal damage in the unfortunate incident.

It's worth mentioning that we're talking about a GT-R packing full bolt ons (and a little extra, whatever that means).

Such accidents are not rare occurrences during drag racing events, since coming off the throttle and aiming to decelerate can bring plenty of trouble at the kind of velocity values delivered. In fact, here's an example of a 2,000 hp Nissan GT-R rolling over while doing about 200 mph during a racing meet held last summer.

As usual with Vehicle Virgins clip, the video we have here talks plenty of other aspects aside from the race and the crash that resulted from it. As such, you can skip to the 9:52 point of the video if you're looking for the action we mentioned above.
