The Honda Civic Type R generation you are looking at has already run its course. Production of the all-new Civic hatchback has already started in Britain, and the hot version of that will be launched in 2017.
But that only means this legendary Nurburgring blitz machine deserve classic sportscar status. And in our book, that can only mean one thin: it's time to tune it and extract even more power.
Don't believe that turbocharging has come a long way in recent years? Neither did we until we realized this Civic Type R has more power squeezed out of its 2-liter engine than most tuners were able to get out of the 2.5-liter five-banger of the FWD Focus RS.
Despite looking exactly like a WTCC race car, the Type R has a flat exhaust sound in its stock configuration. Armytrix fixed that with a custom exhaust that's deafening.
The four-pipe configuration has been preserved, so looking at the Type R from a distance, you'd never know that it's been tuned. This thing can never pass itself off as a discreet car, but when you're not in the mood for hooning, the Valvetronic system allows you to muffle some of the lunacy.
The pleasant thing about almost every Armytrix is that they not only provide you with the keychain remote but also with a dedicated App which connects to the CAN-BUS of the car and gives you lots of valuable data and access to the butterfly valves. It even tells you what speed you are doing. We find Auto mode to be the coolest, as it stays quiet until to rev it to 3,500rpm.
By itself, the exhaust adds 14.3 hp and 16.2 Nm of torque to the 2-liter engine, while cutting 2.1 kilos of weight from the car. On top of that, the monster Civic has a dyno tune that pushes it past 400 horsepower. VTEC, Turbo, and Armytrix kicked in yo!
