We’re sure you are all aware of the importance of good masking tape for achieving the best possible results when giving your car a new paintjob. If the masking tape itself is bad or improperly used, it could ruin the entire operation, so it’s best to always have the best possible products at your disposal - and quality tape is slightly more expensive, but still accessible to anybody.
Now, 3M have launched a product specially designed for the aforementioned role, called 3030 Premium Auto Refinish. It features improved adhesion and superior holding power and leaves absolutely no residue (an easy, yet time-consuming problem to fix). Also, it can withstand at least two bake cycles, at just under 100°C, so you don’t have to peel it off and then reapply it.

According to Darren Lansley, of 3M’s Automotive Aftermarket Division, when they “looked at ways in which we could improve the performance of masking tape, many of the operatives we talked to said they were quite happy with standard tape. In reality, though, they had simply got used to working with a basic product. When they trialled the Scotch Tape 3030 Premium Auto Refinish Masking Tape, its superior performance was immediately apparent. It is effective and more cost-efficient and we estimate the time savings per job easily outweigh the small additional outlay per roll.
