3D Design has never been about outrageous body kits or extreme tuning, even though they come from a culture that does this sort of thing. No, the Japanese always had a more subtle way of treating their customers and their package for the F80 M3 is no different.
Therefore, without further ado, here’s the deal: the 3D Design kit is comprised of a couple of parts made of carbon fiber (of course) that add a touch of class and style to the car without going the wrong way.
Up front, there’s an air splitter attached to the bumper that certainly will help with the aerodynamics, while on the sides you’ll notice the new side skirts. Squint really hard and you might also notice the boot lid spoiler that’s as good looking as it is subtle. Yes, this is truly a gentleman’s car.
A gentleman that can go wild when he wants to. That’s because under the bonnet hides the new S55 3-liter inline 6-cylinder biturbo engine making 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. Coupled to a 7-speed DCT gearbox, the new M3 will do 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill nearly half a second faster than the old one, at 4.1 seconds.
The trick is, you can also get a manual 6-speed box which is rare thing these days. Sure, it will be slower at 4.3 seconds but will you ever notice it? You’d have to be a pretty good driver to get the same times as BMW claims in the first place anyhow.
The starting price for the F80 M3 in the US is $62,000 but adding these carbon fiber bits can easily get that sticker over $70,000. Don’t expect BMW to sell it to you though, you’ll have to turn to a local tuner.
