We introduced to you the 360fly action camera some time ago, and we are happy to announce that things evolved in a most spectacular way. 360fly and BRG (Bell, Ridell, Giro) Sports are showing at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) a new range of helmets equipped with the newest camera.
The new 360fly is now 4K-capable thanks to a more powerful sensor, and comes with a lot of upgraded features.
  • Front-Facing Mode: Not all situations require a 360-degree field of view. During those times, 360fly 4K will allow users to record in a 16:9 aspect ratio at 2560x1440 resolution with a field of view of 178x100 degrees (204 diagonal).
  • Time-Lapse Video Mode: Tell a story in a dramatic fashion by capturing a 360-degree time-lapse video. Users can select 1, 2, 5, 10, 30 or 60-second shutter intervals.
  • Motion and Audio Detection Mode: 360fly 4K will automatically begin to record based off any movement or sounds. This feature is great in surveillance or monitoring situations.
  • Accelerometer Activated Record Mode: Not all environments are smartphone friendly, and in those situations 360fly 4K users can activate record mode with a shake of the camera. For instance, a skier without their smartphone may have difficulties pushing the OnePush button with their snow gloves on, so a simple shake of the camera will begin recording.
  • Telemetry: 360fly 4K features a built-in GPS sensor to tag locations, a barometer/altimeter and accelerometer all powered by an advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. Users can now track altitude, speed and edit this data as an overlay into their 360-degree video content.
  • OnePush Button Color-Coding: For clearer visibility and mode recognition, 360fly 4K features an enhanced design with additional color-coded lighting around the OnePush button and bottom of the mounting dock.

Shockproof up to 1.5m, WiFi and Bluetooth enabled, GoPro mounts-compatible

You might want to leave your old GoPro behind and go for the new 4K 360fly, but looking at the pile of accessories is giving you a hard time and you think about coming back to square one. Well, not quite: you only need to sell your GoPro and keep the mounting accessories, because the 360fly is 100% compatible with them.

The camera will not take damage when dropped from heights of up to 1.5 meters (5 feet), and it also sports WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity for ease of use.

However, there is more to the 360fly than meets the eye. The camera comes with certain safety-focused features that make using it or wearing helmets with integrated cameras more rewarding. The 360fly camera is smart enough to continuously survey the surrounding environment with a 360-degree field of vision and boasts the following features:
  • AutoPilot tracking uses machine learning to track desired subjects/objects through the entire 360-degree field of view
  • Collision Avoidance Alert will automatically notify the rider of potential oncoming dangers that are outside the rider’s natural field of vision
  • Highlight Reel will automatically edit and compile content with the most action
  • Live Streaming - For professional, commercial or advanced users looking to live stream 360-degree video, the integrated camera pairs with its Micro-HDMI accessory
Its creators also say that more features are currently being explored, and that future 360fly-equipped products will tap into more high-tech areas. So far, four helmets will be available with integrated 360fly cameras, the Bell Star racing helmet, the Bell Moto 9 Flex off-road lid, the Bell Super 2R all-mountain helmet, and the Giro Edit, the lightest full-featured snow helmet.

Stay tuned, as there are more goodies arriving from 360fly and Bell. Or would you rather choose a Nikon action camera?
