Do you guys remember how much power the Mercedes-AMG A45 had before its facelift? Well, now there's a 360 horsepower version of the Golf R and Golf R Variant (wagon) that's ready for production... sort of.
In reality, this fantastic hot hatch is a standard Golf R that's sold with an engine tuning kit from ABT Sportsline. And there's another major downside: you can only buy it in Switzerland. Considering the country is rich and features plenty of immaculate mountain roads, we are now considering moving there!
If you're a fan of ABT, you might find this story a little odd, since the tuned R360S has 360 PS and the 5G0 package is supposed to increase output to 370 PS. But the boosted torque is correct, 460 Nm, up from 380 Nm (280 lb-ft). We think Volkswagen asked them not to fit either the ABT exhaust pipes or the cold air intake.
Anyway, we even have performance numbers for these tuned special editions. The Golf R360S with a DSG gearbox is able to rocket from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and offers a top speed of 265 km/h (165 mph).
Production of these things will be strictly limited to 155 versions of the Golf R hatchback, which you can order with a manual as well, and 55 units of the R Variant, which is auto-only from the factory. As you would expect, power goes to all four wheels via the Haldex 5 coupling.
Standard features include the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) adaptive suspension, navigation and a park-assist pack with the camera included.
Although it's not clearly mentioned in the press release, we see that black wheels made from ABT have replaced the Volkswagen ones. However, they changed back the center badges. The tuning company also threw in some graphics, but appears to have left out the lowered suspension system.
