The German luxury carmakers have taken the hot hatchback game to a whole new level in the past we years. The RS3 is a bit understeery, but if tuned right offers the performance bargain of the century. However, it’s the BMW M135i that’s on everyone’s minds right now. Mercedes will soon joint the game with a car that mirrors their AMG ideology, a brutish machine with 350 hp.
However, the RS3, M135i and A45 AMG are all designed to play mainly in Europe. The Americans don’t like hatchbacks, taxes are too high in Europe and Arabs have cheap gas, so they don’t like to mess around with small cars like this.

So, it seems that AMG waisted it time by developing a class-leading 2-liter turbo with 350 horsepower. Or did they? It’s no secret the A-Class will become a compact sedan called the CLA, which will be far more marketable in America and possibly China.

The AMG version called the CLA 45 AMG is on the way, offering the first transversally mounted engine in an AMG car. Autocar says it will be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which is in September 2013, after which it will go on sale in the UK for slightly more money than the A45 AMG.
