While Oxford Dictionaries declared “selfie” the word of the year for 2013, “recall” or “lemon” definitely have good chances of receiving the 2014 title, at least when it comes to the auto world. The latest news on the recall topic comes from Mazda, which find itself on the list of carmakers affected by the Takata Airbag issue.
We’ll remind you that about 7 million cars all over the world are already experiencing issues with Takata airbags, whose potentially faulty inflators can cause them to react improperly in the event of a crash, not exactly the good time for such a mishap.

Returning to Mazda, the carmaker has issued a campaing for 34,600 vehicle. Following the footsteps of Chrysler, Nissan and Ford, Mazda isn’t labelling the action under “recall”, calling this a “special service program”.

The list of affected models includes the 2003-2007 Mazda6, 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6, 2004 Mazda MPV, as well as the 2004-2008 Mazda RX-8. The source of the problem is linked to humidity, so the affected cars were either sold or are currently run in states with a high level of this: Florida, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

"There is insufficient information at this time to determine the cause of these incidents or if they are related to a safety defect, but Mazda is working with the supplier and (the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) to investigate these incidents as quickly as possible," a Mazda statement reads.

The company declared it is only aware of one injury related to this. The carmaker will notify owners of affected vehicles, whose cars will have their airbags replaced by dealers free of charge. However, Mazda has not released a schedule for the operation yet. That’s because the automaker is waiting for the supply availability timetable from Takata.

Nonetheless, if you own one of the affected models, you can contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500.
