Being the only chance the Belgian and French fans can greet their favorite F1 drivers throughout the season – as the French GP is likely to stay out of F1 for many years – and considering the fact that it was hailed by many as the greatest F1 tracks of all time (including by former 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher), the circuit has recently been defended by the people living in the Ardennes area.
Some of you might ask themselves how come the very people who complained about the noise coming from the track during a grand prix weekend are the same to ask for the court's decision to be revised. According to the people who run the petition at www.defendonsfrancorchamps.be, they are in fact habitants of the region close to the venue.
“Since the last publication of the Belgian State Council, too many people think that all the persons living in Francorchamps and all around are disturbed by the noise and are against the circuit, this is not right,” said the petition.
“We are for the continuity of the circuit, and that passes by an optimal exploitation and we will fight to preserve it, we are sorry for the people who don’t agree to be integrated into the local life.”
“'The most beautiful circuit of the World' is a real economic tool, which gives work to a significant amount of people and makes a lot of publicity and a dynamic and qualitative image of Belgium all around the world. We want to be sure that the Spa-Francorchamps racing-track can continue to work for the economical future of our country,” added the petition.
Until now, no less than 30,000 people signed the online petition (including ourselves).
