300 HP Renault Megane RS Trophy Pricing Announced, Is Way More Expensive

Renault has announced pricing for the all-new Megane Trophy, a car that used to be loved by hot hatch fans all over Europe. It's a little more... expensive than you expect a French car to be.

When it becomes available towards the end of the year, the Trophy will start from €44,100. This is the base price for the French market and gives you access to 300 horsepower, 420 Nm of torque and a six-speed manual gearbox.

But we couldn't help noticing that the 280 HP normal Megane RS is way cheaper at €37,600. That's a €6,500 difference, which almost gets you a new Dacia Sandero. Ther' also Trophy 300 EDC model with the twin-clutch automatic that will set you back €45,900.

Series equipment includes a head-up display, the Cup chassis, a Torsen mechanical diff, dual-material brake and butterfly valve exhaust. Also, the Trophy will come 19-inch wheels, red brake calipers Alcantara seats and a Bose sound system with DAB radio. That's also 20 horsepower more, and you kind of need that to take advantage of the available power without wasting it at the front wheels.

However, there are also options available, like the Fuji Light 19-inch wheels for 2k, special RS paint for €1,600 (like what you see in the pictures) and Recaro bucket seats for €1,200. So you could theoretically spend nearly 50,000 euros on a Megane, not that you couldn't do that with a Golf GTI Clubsport as well.

The Trophy isn't for everybody. As soon as you get in this car, you feel how much firmer the springs and dampers have become. The car jumps around over potholes like you wouldn't expect a 5-door family hatchback. The 19-inch wheels fill the wheel arches well, but probably don't help with the ride.

On the other hand, the 300 HP Megane Trophy is at home on the track, where the twitchy suspension and steering make it come alive. It will also lift-off oversteering like nobody's business.
