Ladies and gentlemen, Opel has a pulse and it’s beating really fast and strong! The German have one heck of a hot hatch which will set you pants on fire, one that’s worth pitting against the A45 AMG in a dogfight to the death.
The German automaker’s designers and engineers have been stuck in the same rut for about two years, trying to get the company stable and profitable again. To do that, they’ve built new MPVs, invested in downsized engines and safety tech. But nobody dreams of working for Opel and making something reasonable and practical, they dream of making fast OPC cars. For the Geneva Motor Show, all those people working for Opel have finally been allowed to cut loose.

This is what came out, the Astra OPC Extreme, the most hardcore version of an average car that has ever existed. And no, we’re not exaggerating. What you see in the video below is a car that’s 100 kg lighter than the Astra OPC and yet has over 300 horsepower from a race-tuned 2-liter turbo engine. The car makes extensive use of carbon fiber and aluminum.

Making use of technology developed for Opel’s one-make racing series, the Extreme will have a mechanical limited slip diff, a full roll cage, Brembo brakes with huge 370mm discs and specially developed 245/35 track tires.

The Germans have announced their hyper hatch will enter low-volume production after its public debut set for next week at the Geneva Motor Show. However, we’ve been able to find a video of the car secretly arriving in Geneva yesterday, courtesy of SellerieCimes.
