The first true workhorse Toyota made was the Land Cruiser 40 series, the one slightly inspired by the classic Jeep. The world then changed a bit and the model has been modified to be a bit less barbarian - thus the Land Cruiser 70 series, or the J70, was born.
The Land Cruiser J70 entered production in 1984, in Japan, and is still offered on some markets, like Australia and some parts of Asia, which makes it 30 years old now.

After it went through some facelifts along the years, in 2004 it stopped being offered on the Japanese market, continuing to be available only in countries where it still had success.

Now, along with its 30th birthday, the model returns to its home market, where it will be on sale for about a year, as a limited edition model in both pickup and SUV forms. They are powered by a 4-liter V6 engine making 231 hp and 360 Nm, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and a part-time all-wheel-drive system.

+However, this is just the beginning, as Toyota will also offer two other special editions of current models for the rest of the world - the Land Cruiser ZX Bruno Cross and the Prado TX Argento Cross.

The Land Cruiser ZX Bruno Cross is based on the Land Cruiser ZX and comes with super chrome metallic paint, aluminum wheels, premium nappa leather seats and plated side mirrors among other touches. Power comes from the big 4.6-liter V8 engine mated to a 6-speed auto and a full-time all-wheel-drive system. Price starts at ¥6,843,273 ($65,843/€49,865).

For the smaller Land Cruiser Prado TX Argento Cross, you’ll have to pay ¥3,349,963 ($32,233/€24,410) and it comes with a silver and black color scheme on the seat covers and roof railing, exclusive dark grey metallic wheels and a geometric instrument panel. Power is supplied by a 2.7-liter four-cylinder mated to an intelligent variable valve timing gearbox and a full-time 4WD system.
