DriveNow, a car sharing service, is now rolling out an expansion of its fleet of cars, one of the additions being the BMW i3. Customers in London can now rent one of the Germans’ electric vehicles, plans aiming at offering the innovative car in other cities of the world as well.
Starting with the summer of 2015, several German locations and others in Europe will also be getting emission-free cars to ride around in. According to BMW, this roll out within the DriveNow fleet has been a strategic initiative that they had in mind from the get-go, to promote electric mobility.

A total number of 30 i3s will be available in London starting today, in an attempt that also wants to reduce traffic congestion and emission levels in big cities around the world.

Is it working?

According to various surveys and traffic analyses done by companies like DriveNow, it seems like the positive effects of car sharing services are starting to show, especially in highly congested areas.

The biggest advantage perceived by the public is the fact that you don’t have to own a car anymore, but you can drive one and use it whenever you feel the need to.

Furthermore, the possibility of renting a vehicle spontaneously and fuss-free and being able to return it anywhere within the urban area offers a great advantage.

According to the Federal Carsharing Association, more than one million German citizens are already joining the movement. 38 percent of DriveNow customers have already sold a personal vehicle after experiencing car sharing, and that is especially true when it comes to older and more polluting vehicles.
