2JZ-Powered Holden Commodore VL Is a Beast

The last of the series Holden Commodore VL sold in record numbers back in the mid ‘80s, finally managing to outsell the Ford Falcon in Australia. The 1986 model was a substantial makeover of the VK and was to be the last of the mid-size Commodores, coming with sleek headlamps, front grille and even popup headlamps on some versions.

If you wanted the beefed up version then you had to choose the turbocharged inline-six gasoline engine making 150 kW (200 hp) provided by a contract with Nissan.

But we don’t care about these facts now because the one here, the estate version in fact, has been turned into a drag car by giving up on its interior to make room for a rollcage, racing seat and other performance parts, like suspension, transmission and beefy wheels at the back.

And since Nissan engines are not in the same lexical field with ‘drag racing’, the old RB30E unit has been ditched to be replaced by the all mighty 2JZ-GTE from the Toyota Supra. It has been converted to a single big turbo and fitted with all sorts of goodies to boast probably over 600 hp.

Check it out in the video bellow as it went for some test runs on the drag strip.
