This week's big news was Volvo buying the Polestar brand and their confidence in selling 750 Polestar versions of the V60 wagon and S60 sedan around the world this year only.

But after these 350-horsepower performance versions will have reached their buyers, Volvo won't slow things down.

As a matter of fact, Volvo Cars of North America will be importing only 265 S60 and V60 Polestar vehicles for the model year 2016. Cars are expected on US soil this summer: 60% of the vehicles brought in will be V60 models while 40% will be S60 variants.

Also, Volvo is telling us Polestar engineers made over 70 modifications and upgrades to the original S60 and V60. To be more specific, each vehicle draws its strength from a 345 horsepower, six-cylinder engine allowing them to blast from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds (4.8 seconds for the V60).

You'll also have to thank the new twin-scroll turbo, intercooler, full flow active exhaust and completely recalibrated engine management system for the figures above.

Nevertheless, the transmission was tuned to give the driver more control with faster gear shifts, working side by side with a Haldex all-wheel drive system.

There was only one thing left for the mix to be complete: stopping power. But engineers took care of that by fitting the models with a completely upgraded brake system, including 6-piston Brembo brake calipers and ventilated brake discs.

Here's what Volvo officials have to say about their products:

“This is a performance vehicle that combines Polestar’s racing experience with Volvo Cars’ exceptional ability to build everyday cars,” said Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America, “it is a rare combination that is hard for others to duplicate successfully.”
