230 HP Golf GTI Drag Races 224 HP Mercedes A 250, Destruction Is Total

We couldn't have asked for a more fair fight than what ArabGT put together. The A 250 doesn't have its optional AWD, which would have given it an unfair advantage, while the Golf GTI lacks the Performance package that would have given it a power boost (245 HP and 370 Nm).

Both cars are hatchbacks, featuring 2-liter turbocharged engines and twin-clutch automatic gearboxes. The basic Golf GTI makes 230 HP plus 350 Nm of torque, this being the version you can't get in Europe at the moment. But it's not the American model either, as that would have a different dashboard and handbrake.

Meanwhile, the A 250 makes 224 HP and the same amount of torque. Its interior is much more modern, featuring bucket seats all the way in the back, new screens and leather. However, the GTI has lots of charm as well, even though it was launched six years ago.

Can't teach an old dog new tricks? The GTI doesn't even need any to take down the A-Class. The test drivers try both launching the cars and doing rolling races, with the outcome always being a Volkswagen victory. This is a repeat of what happened in the Golf R vs. A35 drag races.

In this case, we can clearly see that the Golf pulls better, probably thanks to low-end torque. But the car is also lighter and with a quicker gearbox. We know that the A 250 isn't a hot hatch, but it costs about the same as the GTI and looks even more aggressive with that AMG Line body kit.
