2023 Volvo XC100 Rendering Looks Like a Boring Flagship
Coupe SUVs aren't going anywhere. In just a little over a decade, the trend started by the BMW X6 has now spread into every possible segment and has morphed from something resembling a stigma, to a true badge of honor.
Flagship models such as the Audi Q8 or the Porsche Cayenne Coupe sit on top of their respective brands' SUV tree and look smirkingly at all those who still dare to doubt their aristocratic blood. They are the nouveau-riche of the automotive industry: late to the party but making the loudest noise.

Speaking of late to the party, where is Volvo's coupe SUV? Apparently, on its way. According to Motor Trend, the Chinese-owned Swedish company is going to fall in line and introduce one such model in the coming years. It'll be called XC100 Recharge and, as the latter part of the name suggests, it is expected to have a fully electric powertrain.

To be fair, there has never been a better moment for Volvo to think about a design-oriented model. Its latest offerings have all received raving reviews in the visual department, and the interior quality is also top-notch. The XC100 Recharge is reportedly planned for a 2023 reveal, with production starting the following year.

Not much is known about the technical details other than its battery-powered nature but considering the strides sister brand Polestar is making into EV territory, it's safe to assume Volvo's SPA-II platform will be up to date come 2024. The XC100 Recharge will most definitely use a dual motor set up to reflect the "XC" (cross-country) lettering in its name.

Expect the XC100 Recharge to sacrifice function over form in true coupe fashion. That means a smaller trunk than its closest match, the XC90, possibly four seats instead of five, and slightly worse headroom for the two people sitting in the back. However, one look over your shoulder as you move away from the car, and all should be forgiven. At least that's theory.
