As early as last year, Mercedes-Benz said that it would reshuffle its two-door lineup, giving up on certain models. This move will give birth to a brand-new car, supposedly dubbed the CLE, which is said to act as the direct successor of the Coupe and Cabriolet versions of the C- and E-Class.
We’ve already seen it testing at the Nurburgring just last week, and now, based on those spy shots, our friends at Kolesa have imagined how it could look like.
Peeling off the thick camo wrapped around the entire exterior, the model was imagined as a two-door coupe. Up front, it carries over the design of the latest Mercedes-Benz models, with the typical grille that sports a single horizontal slat, interrupted in the middle by the three-pointed star badge.
It also sports a muscular hood, fat rear fenders, and an arched roofline behind the B pillars. The C pillars are rather thick, and at the back, we can see a set of taillights that mirror the looks of the ones equipping the CLS, among others. The rear bumper has two vents toward the sides, flanking the horizontal reflectors and license plate holder. Further down, it has a black diffuser with chrome trim and two (fake?) exhaust tips.
We’ll have to wait and see how much it will resemble these renderings. Meanwhile, reports suggest that the Mercedes-Benz CLE (name unconfirmed) will share its nuts and bolts with the all-new C-Class. Certain powertrain options will carry over from the premium compact model too, and it should also feature very similar (if not identical) driving assistance gear.
In terms of rivals, it will take on the likes of the BMW 4 Series and Audi A5, and it might be joined by a four-door coupe variant that will have the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and Audi A5 Sportback in its sights.
The official unveiling should take place sometime next year in Europe, and it appears that it won’t apply for a U.S. visa at all.
