We have known since back in 2018 that General Motors wanted a piece of the modern compact pickup truck market. Unfortunately, the 2023 Chevy Nova Montana unibody model will remain a forbidden fruit for U.S. fans.
Earlier this spring, just as Hyundai and Ford were already all the rage with the 2022 Santa Cruz and 2022 Maverick, their Detroit rival confirmed bite-sized Montana's scheduled production in South America (Brazil). That was in May, and already in June, Chevrolet kicked off the teaser campaign for the truck’s third generation.
The dark silhouette didn’t hide the modern Chevy Blazer design inspiration, so it was only natural that virtual artists would jump at the chance of trying to produce an unofficial full interpretation. Brazilian pixel master Kleber Silva, the CGI expert behind the kdesignag account on social media, was chief among them. After initially taking some Blazer and Rivian R1T cues for his Nova Montana styling, he’s now back with another version.
This time around he’s blatantly copying a model that would have been its direct competitor if General Motors decided to enter the U.S. battle of bite-sized pickup trucks and slot the Nova Montana below the Colorado/Canyon twins. That probably won’t happen any time soon, so the virtual artist probably felt there was no reason to fear any copyright infringement hustle for his unofficial interpretation.
Oddly enough, although the 2022 Ford Maverick silhouette is clearly easy to decipher, the pixel master hasn’t renounced the Blazer styling either. He even tripled the GM inspiration by also adding into the mix some Tahoe and Silverado influences. And, probably to spice up things even further, the 2023 Nova Montana is also presented here as an RS version.
All in all, it’s not a bad effort, as the virtual interpretation doesn’t feel overdone. Interestingly, it also turns out the current GM and Ford designs are easily interchangeable among themselves, so it’s perhaps better that Chevrolet isn’t going to war with the Blue Oval and Hyundai...
