2023 Cadillac Celestiq Features Huge Media Display, Smart Roof, AWD, and AWS

Even though it wasn’t his fault, Johan de Nysschen wouldn’t have imagined that Cadillac’s flagship sedan would be discontinued over dwindling sales. Under the leadership of Steve Carlisle, the crown jewel of GM decided to focus on electric cars and utilities to the detriment of half-hearted vehicles that can’t hold a candle to the German competition.

As such, Cadillac is going all-in with the Celestiq. Not only does the flagship sedan feature a different nomenclature from the CT6 it effectively replaces, but the all-new model is a technological marvel with over-the-top styling.

The ultra-luxury show car in the following video artfully integrates cutting-edge technology like the pillar-to-pillar infotainment display with a dramatic presence, a low profile, rearward proportions, and a “curated selection of hand-crafted materials.” I cannot imagine Cadillac talking about handcrafting considering the quality issues and cheapness of General Motors, but hey, it appears that anything goes these days as long as it's an EV.

Celestiq customers can also look forward to a full-glass roof with four-quadrant smart glass. The suspended-particle-device technology allows each occupant to set their own level of transparency, which sounds luxurious at first glance. The more observant among us will also think about reliability; if anything goes wrong, you can expect a hefty repair bill.

The rear occupants will be treated to personalized entertainment screens and console screens between the rear seats, and I can’t help but label the Celestiq as a distracting vehicle. Oh, and by the way, check out that backlit front grille flanked by two vertical LED clusters and a backlit Cadillac logo. If the Celestiq intends to rival the Coca-Cola Christmas truck in terms of rubbernecking, I can’t help but think that Cadillac did a pretty good job.

Last but certainly not least, General Motors confirmed three important pieces of information for would-be customers. In addition to Ultium battery cells integrated into the BEV3 platform, the Celestiq will be available with all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering. Unfortunately, Cadillac didn’t mention if we’re dealing with two or more electric motors. The GMC Hummer EV, for reference, packs 1,000 horsepower from a three-motor setup.
