2022 QX55 Joins Infiniti's Carigami Series Just in Time for Christmas

Japanese automakers love origami, there’s no denying it. We have seen real-sized cars made out of paper and companies throwing out social media challenges inspired by this art form. And now, there’s even a battle for Christmas between paper scale models.

A few days ago, Lexus decided to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of its LFA supercar, as the short-lived series production kicked off back in December 2010. And they did it without making too much fuss about it - with a few paper sheets, a scissor, and some glue. The result is a paper scale model of the LFA, available in four possible versions.

Another carmaker with a passion for origami is Infiniti. Earlier this year, the company even started an exclusive series of paper scale models, with the new “Carigami” range comprising three models: the Q50, QX80, and the renowned FX crossover.

Now, just in time for Infiniti fans to relax next to the Christmas tree, the brand has revealed a fourth addition based on the new generation 2022 QX55. By the way, we feel that one shouldn’t dive into such endeavors without some first-hand practice – so we advise you to start taking up all Christmas gift-wrapping duties in the family.

As far as the Carigami QX55 is concerned, the new entry in the series is a very red 1:27 scale reproduction of the real vehicle, Infiniti's latest entry into the crossover coupe genre. “Since the all-new QX55 is not quite available for your driveway, the QX55 Carigami can dazzle your holiday display this year instead,” explains Phil York, global general manager for marketing.

That’s because the QX55 isn’t slotted for dealership arrival until next spring when it will power up with its variable-compression 2.0-liter packing 268 hp and 280 pound-feet (379 Nm) of torque, as well as ProPILOT Assist semi-autonomous credentials.

Instructions to build the latest Carigami paper scale model are available here, and Infiniti says the process needs just a few basic tools: scissors or a craft knife and some glue.
