Despite its flaws, the outgoing Mitsubishi Outlander was a pretty popular CUV. Now an all-new 2022 Outlander has been developed and is about to make a full debut.
We've already seen some pictures of a fully uncamouflaged pre-production Outlander. However, those low-resolution images were a little grainy. If you want a full preview of what the RAV4 rival will be like, here's a set of accurate renderings from Russian website Kolesa.
Initially, we thought these are real photos that have been leaked because of the natural lighting and background. However, due to logos from the Russian website, we can deduce that we're dealing with renderings. There isn't a lot of guessing left for the Outlander, as Mitsubishi previewed this type of design using a concept called the Engelberg Tourer, and the production model looks every bit as sharp.
At the front, this 2022 Outlander has a strong shield-like grille with lights split between the circular element in the middle and the narrow brow right under the hood. It's quite similar to the Kia Palisade if you ask us. The profile in this rendering is like a bigger Eclipse, while the rear is a bit plain Jane.
We suspect the Outlander has become slightly bigger in order to accommodate a semi-comfortable third row. Details regarding powertrains are not officially available. However, reports indicate the partnership between Mitsubishi and Nissan flows both ways. The normal 2022 Outlander uses Nissan's 2.5-liter engine, while the smaller company will provide the plug-in hybrid drive to power the Rogue.
Of course, this is a global model, and some markets like Russia or the Middle East might still have access to another V6. But the diesel 2.2-liter seems pointless at this moment.
The covers come off the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander in February, and we expect the model to be on sale in America by next summer.
