The GLC is the 3rd most popular luxury SUV in America, after the Q5 and Lexus RX. However, demand is high in Europe and Asia as well. And you can kind of see why. The current generation is nearing the end of its life but remains practical, affordable by Mercedes measures, and quite good-looking.

The GLC II will take advantage of new technologies being developed for the W206 C-Class, which we believe will be revealed towards the end of the year. This includes a new platform that makes increased use of aluminum and a series of fuel-saving measures bundled in the EQ Boost and EQ Power suite (hybrid and plug-in).

We have two sets of spyshots of the all-new GLC-Class, both taken last month. Using images like those, the Russian website Kolesa has captured the essence of the new SUV model in its renderings.

As you can probably tell, the design language is a mix of the new GLA-Class and the C-Class. The SUV appears a little wider, more planted and sporty. Its features are different too, from the long taillights to the grille.

Ironically, the sportier-looking GLC II is unlikely to keep its best engines. According to our current information, the big 4.0-liter will stop being offered, as Mercedes targets lower emissions over drag racing valor. The new generation of inline-6 turbo engines might not fit either, which leaves us with the possibility of a GLC 53 model that's motivated by a hybrid AMG 2.0-liter.

Besides the platform and engines, the major highlight of the 2022 model will be the interior. Like the next S-Class, this will have a giant tablet-sized screen placed lower down on the dash.
