2022 Kia Sportage Render Takes Bold Approach Up Front, Rear End Is a Lot Tamer

With the 2021 Hyundai Tucson already out and about at home, in Europe, or the U.S., the attention has naturally turned towards its architecture sibling, the 2022 Kia Sportage. And the South Korean automaker probably has equally wonderful things to come for the successful compact crossover SUV formula.

Of course, expectations are exceedingly high since Kia has always relied on the Sportage as one of its most popular sales powerhouses. And expectations run both ways – from the automaker towards its intended markets and future owners towards the Asian brand.

We have seen the 2022 Kia Sportage get speculatively rendered on quite a few occasions. All of them make a point of tantalizing customers with an upcoming bold styling, with the Sportage seemingly trying to equal – or even best – its platform sibling in terms of adventurous design.

Most of the outlets creating unofficial takes on the 2022 Sportage seem to agree on the front styling, which is just as quirky (though completely different) as the one exhibited by the 2021 Tucson. But there’s one point of divergence – the design of the rear, even though everyone is basing their renders on hints provided by just about the same spy shots.

The latest batch of imaginative CGIs has arrived courtesy of kolesa.ru, which is trying to present its take on the possible styling of the 2022 Sportage as a means of helping us cope with the time left before the official introduction (rumored for this spring, possibly in April).

Their take on the front-end design is the one to be expected, as Kia is campaigning a steady move upmarket for its latest model introductions. As such, the 2022 Sportage will bode well next to the latest SUVs, such as the Sorento and Telluride.

According to this speculative creation, Kia is taking a daring styling approach with the front of the 2022 Sportage – but the same cannot be said about the rear end if this unofficial render pans out. Unlike other speculative CGIs, the one provided by Kolesa takes a decidedly cautious approach to the rear-end styling.

It does provide an easy point of reference for a connection with the previous generation. Still, somehow, we feel the two approaches are a bit disconnected from the general atmosphere – a bold, daring, front end probably won’t feel at home with a rear that’s steeply turning back to conservative styling.
