The American SUV market is about to get a whole lot more interesting next year, as one of the best luxury 4x4s of all time will be renewed. We're talking about the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WL), of course.
The popular E-segment Jeep model has already been spotted numerous times going up and down the streets of Detroit. We believe its official debut may have been delayed a little but should happen with the next few months. That's because the start of production for the SUV is March 2021.
Of course, some might not want to wait that long, especially when German rivals like the BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE-Class are also quite appealing right now. But we have a set of renderings that suggest the Grand Cherokee is worth it.
The Russian website Kolesa has released this pair of images that accurately depict the vehicle from the front and rear angles. While this may not seem like it at first, they actually line up pretty well with what we see in recent spy shots. What we mean is that Jeep tried to put a RAM-sized grille in the camo, but the SUV actually has it narrow, in line with the design of the Grand Wagoneer. It's what we saw in the latest spy shots from only a few days ago.
At the back, it's easy to tell that it's a much newer model, as the LED taillights are narrow. The long body is likely explained by a speculated comfortable three-row layout. This fifth-gen is smooth and chiseled compared to its muscular predecessor, but that might concern some that HEMI spirit is lacking. Still, there's no reason to fear the new SUV.
While the Grand Cherokee looks likely to add a hybrid drive, this could just be a Jeep version of the Ram 1500 eTorque. The HEMI's eTorque motor is good for 16 horses and 49 lb-ft (66 Nm), its operation being invisible alongside the 5.7-liter V8. And it's pretty safe to assume we'll get another Trackhawk version too.
