General Motors has placed a massive bet on the successful revival of the Hummer name with the 2022 GMC Hummer EV fully electric “supertruck.” It’s going to be expensive, riddled with premium features, ready for off-road adventures, and full of the latest technologies. Oh, and it also serves as inspiration for Chip Ganassi Racing's 550-horsepower electric SUV that’s set to compete in the inaugural Extreme E season.
Ever since the 2022 GMC Hummer EV officially came out into the limelight, it seems that just about everyone – including GM’s own designers – actually had a different take on the current design. The Chip Ganassi Racing team joins the fray and this time around we’re not dealing with an unofficial derivative.

Instead, GMC has just announced a long-term sponsorship deal with the team that will see the Hummer EV brand image embarking on an electric racing adventure – the 2021 season of the newly minted Extreme E series. And the sole image revealed so far isn’t playing with our mind because it really is an extreme SUV that borrows design cues from the company's new EV pickup truck.

Well, just about everyone was betting on GMC going forward with the rumored sport utility derivative of the Hummer EV. Granted, very few would have gambled the chance that said SUV would be an extreme SUV specifically designed for off-road racing.

But it seems that GMC also works in mysterious ways, so here’s CGR’s 550-horsepower electric SUV, complete with “a unique grille, graphics, and bodywork (that) was inspired by the GMC Hummer EV, the world’s first all-electric supertruck.”

At the moment, we’re not given a full view of the Hummer EV-inspired SUV from all angles, but at least we know the name of drivers that will hone its skills during the Extreme E series - Kyle LeDuc and Sara Price.

In case you don’t know what the deal is with the Extreme E, we’re talking about a five-race worldwide championship that promotes both electric vehicles and some of the least traveled locations in the world.

For example, the first season’s calendar is made from the Desert, Ocean, Arctic, Amazon, and Glacier X Prizes taking place in Saudi Arabia, Senegal (Lac Rose), Greenland, Brazil, and Patagonia (Argentina).
