Remember the stepside Ranger Splash from the ‘90s? The Ford Motor Company is bringing back the much-loved blast from the past for the 2022 model year in two forms: a special edition and an appearance package.
First of all, the Splash Package is rocking black and orange body-side graphics. Exterior aesthetics are further improved by specific 18-inch wheels featuring a 12-spoke design and matte-black finish, along with orange nostrils for the grille, gloss-black accents on the grille as well, bumpers, mirror caps, fender vents, and wheel-lip moldings. Hop inside the mid-size pickup, and you’re welcomed by orange contrast stitching on the seats, gear shifter, steering wheel, parking brake boot, carbon grain with tuxedo stripes upholstery, and leather upholstery in the top-of-the-line trim.

Ford highlights that customers may combine the Splash Package with the FX2 rear-wheel drive or FX4 four-wheel drive off-road packages. Only available for the SuperCrew in XLT and Lariat flavors, the colorful option will be priced from $1,495 and deliveries are scheduled to start by the end of 2021. Proudly manufactured at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, the Bronco’s more utilitarian sibling will bring a fresh dash of color for the Splash Limited Edition every few months in a series of one-time-only finishes.

The Splash - Snow Edition kicks off the series, and FoMoCo has failed to mention how much the special edition costs over the appearance package.

“Ranger customers love to personalize their trucks – more than 80% customize their Ranger with an appearance package. With Splash, we’re giving them something exclusive,” said marketing manager Chad Callandar. “Every few months, we’re going to roll out another exterior color for Ranger that will be offered one time only and in very limited quantities.”

On a final note, 2022 is the final year for the Ranger as we currently know it because the Ford Motor Company is redesigning the workhorse on the Bronco’s platform for 2023. Considering the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 of the JL-rivaling Bronco, chances are that your next Ranger will receive this engine as an option over the standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder lump.
