With the 2021 Ram TRX out and about sporting 702 horsepower from the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 that we’re used to seeing under the hood of Dodge's Hellcats, big trouble is brewing for the new incarnation of the F-150 Raptor. With the 14th generation now at dealerships, all eyes are turning towards the high-performance version, and for a good reason.
Ford knows very well the ball is in its court right now, so there’s no surprise we’re seeing prototypes of the 2022 F-150 Raptor popping left and right. They are about as common as the ones catering to the 2022 Bronco Warthog SUV side of the equation, and the mystery is just as big.

That's because Ford’s performance pickup has been spied with seemingly different powertrains – first with the current EcoBoost V6, and now with a deeper rumble that might come to suggest the rumors about the Raptor taking a page out of FCA’s playbook weren’t that crazy, after all.

According to the new video provided by the Motrolix channel on YouTube, the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor spied testing has a V8 soundtrack, with further details provided by the fordautority.com forum page. They’re the ones that launched the supercharged V8 rumor in the first place, so no wonder they’re backing up the claim with this new footage.

By the way, other internet users are wondering if the V8 rumble isn’t coming from the vehicle that followed alongside the F-150 Raptor prototype, so we’re going to recommend (yet again) taking all this with a pinch of salt. Of course, an entire world of Blue Oval fans is hoping the new iteration will be getting the GT500’s Predator V8 to make sure they’ll be able to one-up the Ram TRX.

Then again, this could go down in history as wishful thinking. That’s because Ford has a third choice at hand and that is electrifying the Raptor with an enhanced version of the PowerBoost assembly from the F-150 Hybrid. That way, the carmaker could back its claims for sustainable mobility and have an excuse for not providing a fitting rival to FCA’s monster of a truck...
