2022 Ford EcoSport Redesign Rendered With Bronco Sport Influences

So far, Ford has used the EcoSport nameplate for two crossovers. The first generation, produced in Brazil from 2003 to 2012, was based on the Fiesta. Unsurprisingly, the second coming of the EcoSport is also subcompact.

The Gen 2 also happens to be a global model despite its Brazilian roots. Made in India for the U.S. market and Romania for the European Union, the EcoSport may be affordable but it’s definitely not cheerful if you’re not prepared to pony up for options such as climate control and the SYNC 3 infotainment system.

Another disappointment is the rear space, or better said, lack of rear legroom. The cargo compartment is on the small side of trunks as well, and the plastic that Ford uses for the interior is not particularly pleasant to the sight or touch.

The biggest offender, however, is that Ford has failed to restyle the EcoSport into a modern crossover like the Bronco Sport. It had the opportunity for the 2017 mid-cycle update, yet too little has changed to matter when compared to rivals such as the Mazda CX-3, Jeep Renegade, Honda HR-V, and Chevrolet Trax.

It’s not known if the Ford Motor Company will try its hand at making things better for the third generation, but pixel artist Kleber Silva had a go at imagining the Gen 3 with more desirable styling. Obviously based on the Bronco Sport, the rendering is designed to appeal to adventure-oriented utility vehicle customers.

On the other hand, the Blue Oval can’t afford to copy and paste the Bronco Sport into a subcompact package because it would indirectly hurt sales through cannibalization. In any case, the EcoSport is pretty certain to live on because B-segment crossovers sell better than ever in the U.S. and Europe as well.

At the present moment, $19,995 excluding destination charge is the starting price of the EcoSport stateside. S is the name of the entry-level trim while the Titanium costs almost as much as the Bronco Sport in its most basic specification.
