The premium U.S. automaker first presented the CT4 and CT5 back in 2019 as replacements for the slow-selling ATS and CTS series. Their feisty derivatives, the CT4-V and CT5-V, were displayed back-to-back late May that same year, and we have been waiting for the high-performance Blackwing versions ever since.
Sure, the teasing campaign debuted so early that expectations have had ample time to easily reach the skies. The first time we heard that something was brewing for the “V-Series performance legacy” was back in June 2019, when Mark Reuss, president of General Motors and another top official drove a couple of prototypes on track at the Detroit Grand Prix.
The Blackwing name took the forefront almost a year later, with the first details about the capabilities released in April. Back then, Brandon Vivian, Cadillac executive chief engineer, claimed the “new CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing build on the brand’s respected legacy of ultimate-performance driving experiences and elevate them even further.”
It was all a cat and mouse from then on, with Cadillac enticing its fans with small instances of the CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwings here and there. So far, they have highlighted the carbon fiber-trimmed performance steering wheel, the racing-inspired (with carbon fiber backs and “laser-etched V-Series logo”) premium seats, the exclusive forged magnesium wheels, or the standard six-speed manual transmissions with bespoke 3D-printed parts.
Less than a month from now, the wait will finally come to an end and the camouflage will fall off the CT4-V and CT-5V Blackwing models. Cadillac has confirmed the official presentation is scheduled on Monday, February 1st, at 7 p.m. Eastern Time/4 p.m. Pacific Time.
That’s actually the general audience presentation schedule because those lucky fans who will be attending the Rolex 24 at Daytona will get a sneak peek of both high-performance sedans two days prior, on Saturday, January 30th.
Of course, the wait isn’t actually over, because the first deliveries are scheduled for late summer, but at least we’ll get to know the enhanced design, and – most importantly – get the full rundown on what's hiding under the sporty hoods.
