With the all-new BMW 4 Series Coupe and Convertible already trying their hardest to make everyone at peace with their new enlarged nostrils, it is time for the 4 Series Gran Coupe to continue the huge-nose onslaught, albeit with two extra doors and a liftback design.
The coupe-ish sedan’s reveal was teased by BMW’s head of exterior design a couple of weeks ago, but the G26 4 Series Gran Coupe should go official this Spring, not long its all-electric counterpart, the recently unveiled 2022 BMW i4.

Despite such a short amount of time remaining until we can see the first official photos of the new model, BMW continues to drench its pre-production prototypes in full camouflage.

That said, there aren’t that many design details to be worth hiding since the car is essentially a BMW 4 Series Coupe with a longer wheelbase, two extra doors, and a larger opening for the luggage compartment.

The interior will obviously be more accommodating, especially for the rear passengers, but other than that, this is simply a longer 4 Coupe to go against cars like the Audi A5 Sportback.

On the engine front, the 2022 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe G26 is expected to offer a similar lineup as its two-door brothers, with a variety of four- and six-cylinder units with mild-hybrid technology at their disposal.

The pre-production prototype spotted doing winter testing in Lapland appears to be an M440i, which comes with 387 metric horsepower (382 hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. For the first time ever, there are rumors that a full-blown M4 Gran Coupe could also make an appearance later into the model’s production cycle, but nothing has been confirmed officially at this point.

Unlike the i4 or the i4 M Performance, which is expected to be an RWD-only affair as well, the new 4 Gran Coupe will be offered in both rear-wheel-drive and xDrive AWD versions to appeal to more customers.
