Not even a week has passed since we last talked about the upcoming 2022 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and it looks like pre-production prototypes have started to seriously shed some of the heavy camouflage they used to have.
While the last prototype was doing cold-weather testing with full camo in the northern parts of Sweden, this week we are looking at a much less camouflaged test car somewhere in snow-less Germany.

As you can see, the car is pretty much naked despite pretty much all body parts being still covered in a psychedelic-looking wrap.

Oddly enough, BMW could do without any camouflage whatsoever now, since everyone should know what to expect when it comes to the exterior design of the model. Just take a 4 Series Coupe, elongate its wheelbase a little, add a couple of smaller doors for easier access into the rear seats and switch the traditional trunk lid with a big hatch that includes the rear windshield.

From the side, the car looks like a 3 Series with a much more pronounced sloping roofline, while the front and rear ends are identical to those found on the 4 Series.

Unlike the prototype spotted earlier in Lapland, this one doesn’t appear to have M-Performance parts on it, so we could be looking at a four-cylinder model, most likely an xDrive version.

Speaking of which, the 2022 4 Series Gran Coupe is expected to feature the exact same engine lineup as the one found on its 3 Series brother, going from 2.0-liter four-cylinders to 3.0-liter inline-sixes, paired to either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission, depending on trim level and options. RWD and xDrive AWD versions will consist

Technically, the M440i should represent the top of the range version, powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter mild-hybrid inline-six with 387 PS and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque.

That said, there are rumors suggesting that an M4 Gran Coupe could also be in the works, especially since Audi rivals are offering an RS5 Sportback, which would be a direct competitor.
