2022 Bentley Bentayga LWB Looks Enormous, Will Fight Rolls-Royce Cullinan

The Bentley luxury nameplate celebrated a century of existence almost two years ago, so why is the carmaker testing a poorly camouflaged and stranger-looking Bentayga prototype with ‘Beyond 100’ stickers plastered all over the body?

The answer to that question is simple, as Bentley announced the so-called ‘Beyond 100’ strategy for the company at around the same time as the centennial was celebrated.

So far, only the mid-cycle refresh of the Bentayga happened as part of the plan, but this is long term thinking, and Bentley hasn’t stopped there. A host of electrified models are in the works for the following years, but until that time comes, the Bentayga is still the bread and butter of the stable.

With that said, it looks like the luxury SUV’s model lineup is set to become even more luxurious with the addition of a top of the range version, which will have a much longer wheelbase compared with the others.

With rivals like the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 and even the Rolls-Royce Cullinan offering more space for the VIPs in the back, Bentley figured that it was about time the Bentayga got in the long-wheelbase game as well with its SUV.

Likely to feature just two sumptuous reclining seats in the rear, the 2022 Bentley Bentayga LWB will be exclusively powered by the twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 that is currently only featured in the Speed version of the facelifted Bentayga.

With 635 PS (626 horsepower) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal, the Bentayga Speed can hit a top speed of no less than 306 kph (190 mph), which is slightly better than what its Lamborghini Urus platform brother can do.

Even though the Bentayga LWB will definitely weigh more than the Speed, its top speed shouldn’t be affected, making it the fastest long-wheelbase luxury SUV on the planet when it arrives.

Speaking of which, Bentley should unveil the most luxurious version of the model in less than a couple of months, just in time to steal a small slice of the Cullinan’s and GLS 680's market for this year.
