While the 2021 Toyota Supra isn't expected to reach dealers until mid-summer, we can already talk about the significant firepower upgrades the fifth-generation of the sportscar has received for its second model year (think: more AND less power). And a test vehicle for the 2021 Supra has recently been spotted doing its thing in the canyon roads above Los Angeles.
The test car was seen testing on the Big Tujunga Canyon Road and this was accompanied by a BMW 3 Series prototype, as you'll notice in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page.

Now, since the Japanese sportscar's engines come from BMW, the four-door companion of the Supra shouldn't come as a surprise. And we can probably say the same about the fact that engineers didn't bother to take the camo off these models, despite their showroom presence (no, the four-door doesn't appear to the upcoming 2021 M3, whose custom body would've justified the camouflage).

Returning to those firepower updates for 2021, the EPA has already released the official fuel efficiency estimates for the six-cylinder heart of the Supra. And the 3.0-liter straight-six goes down from 24 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined (9.0 l/100 km) to 22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 25 mpg (9.4 l/100 km) combined.

And that small drop is a brilliant aspect, since the turbocharged mill jumps from its previous muscle rating of 335 hp to 382 horses, while the maximum twist goes up slightly, from 365 lb-ft (495 Nm) at 1,600 rpm to 368 lb-ft (500 Nm) at 1,800 rpm.

As such, the machine's 0 to 60 mph (97 kph) time is 0.2s sharper, sitting at 3.9 seconds (the Supra only comes with an eight-speed auto, remember?). Oh, and let's not overlook that you should be able to enjoy even sportier handling thanks to a slightly revised chassis.

While we've covered the Supra 3.0, you should know that the EPA hasn't released its numbers for the new-to-the-U.S. Supra 2.0. However, you'll be reminded this is animated by a 2.0-liter turbo-four to deliver 255 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. This means the 0 to 60 duty is covered in 5 seconds flat, while top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 kph), as is the case with the larger engine.

Meanwhile, the custom car community is still in love with the Mk V Supra, as we constantly see new developments of the sort.
