We have repeatedly seen how fans know very well anything that moves inside Tesla’s EV world, so we’re not surprised that first impressions are already in on the introduction of the 2021 Model Y Standard Range. And, of course, they also caught wind of the company’s release of the seven-seat third-row option.
We all know how Tesla moves according to Elon Musk’s credo about (not) having official public relations with the outside world, so even we have to rely on the sharpness of the company’s fans from time to time. Cue in YouTuber and Tesla Model 3 RWD Long Range owner Andy Slye, who brought to our attention the latest release.

From now on, the most affordable Model Y becomes the 2021 Standard Range version, which packs just one electric motor and enough battery juice for an EPA-estimated range of just 244 miles (393 km). Well, well, Mr. Musk, as Slye points out in the early seconds of his video (embedded below), didn’t you say there won’t be a Tesla Model Y with a rating of under 250 miles?!

Never mind that little slip up because the rest of the specifications aren’t too shabby; it will hit 60 mph (96 kph) in 5.3 seconds and a maximum speed of 135 mph (217 kph). According to the Model 3 user, it should also come with great efficiency and a price that puts it squarely against the Mustang Mach-E (starting at $42,895, but eligible for the federal incentives).

On the other hand, it’s also a great alternative to the Model 3, even though it doesn’t trespass on its pricing territory – the sedan remains the cheapest Tesla that can be had. On the other hand, even the Standard Range Model Y comes with a full premium interior, plus anyone with a big family can now order the newly added seven-seat option for another $3k.

All in all, there’s enough reasoning to choose the new Model Y Standard Range in between a Model 3 (more space) and a Long Range or Performance Model Y, which are much costlier – the difference between Standard and Long Range comes in at exactly $8k.
