2021 Skoda Octavia RS Spied for the First Time as Wagon, Could Be a Diesel

Not a hot hatch but always popular, the Skoda Octavia RS carved a nice for itself by blending practicality and performance in a relatively affordable package. And now there's a new one coming out, probably set to be revealed towards the end of 2020.

Our spies have captured the first photos of the new Octavia RS, which is a 4th generation model. Though it's a wagon, we still expect the liftback "sedan" to be offered.  It looks slightly different from the current version, though that's to be expected. The front end features the most changes, as a large grille sits lower in the bumper and is flanked by narrow headlights. The hood seems to have a clamshell design and the nose (front overhang) is longer.

Like most wagons these days, the new Octavia tries to look more elegant by sloping the roof and extending the taillights over the trunk opening. But the Octavia 4 does that to a lesser degree and is thus less exciting to look at than something like a Proceed GT or even the Focus ST. The Octavia RS also doesn't have in-your-face air intakes or fender flairs.

Engine-wise, nothing has been leaked so far, but we have a couple of theories. Either Skoda will push the development of its 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TSI a bit further or it will go down the downsizing and hybrid routes. Either way, a lot is riding on this, as the Octavia is their most popular model and in many markets, the RS is the most popular trim level.

Because the exhaust pipe seems to be fake on the right of the car, we think this prototype might be a diesel, just like the Kodiaq RS, though with a bit less power. It's also front-wheel-drive, though only a small number of the current Octavia RSs are sold with AWD.
