The Talisman is the first and potentially last of its name, a large sedan/wagon designed to compete for the decreasing attention of D-segment car buyers in Europe, but also South Korea. Besides the occasional discounts, you don't hear about it very much, but Renault wants to change that with a mid-life facelift.
We're pleasantly surprised by how much attention this car has received, far more than the Laguna that it replaced. The wagon came out in 2016 but received a large range of new engines in 2018. But addressing the cosmetics could prove more complicated.
These spyshots show the Grandtour wagon sporting the facelift for the first time, its camouflage allowing us to see some features but obscuring others. The most obvious change is fresh projectors for the headlights, which look thinner and thus more "premium."
The grille is being revised at the same time the lower bumper looks sportier, thanks to frames around the intakes which are vaguely reminiscent of the Megane RS. Meanwhile the back sports narrower taillights and a new diffuser.
We think the interior is going to be the main focus of the facelift. While we hope they won't install a tablet floating over the dash like in the Clio, this seems to be the new standard for Renault. Also, we could see a few textured elements to rival the Peugeot 508.
As we've mentioned, the Talisman already has fresh engines, interesting ones that you barely hear about. For example, VW's 2.0 TDI is matched or even outdone by the 1.7 dCi with 150 HP and the flagship 2.0 dCi making 200 HP. For those looking for swift acceleration, Renault also makes a version with the 1.8 TCe from the Megane RS but de-tuned to 225 HP. We believe that a hybrid is what the French are looking to add. We're just not sure what it is right now, maybe something from Nissan's larger models.
