2021 Renault Kangoo Turns Into Family of Models With Five Versions, EV included

Renault has been offering the Kangoo multi-purpose vehicle – as a real crossover (pun intended) between its commercial and passenger car ranges – for almost a quarter of a century already. It spawned countless versions during its lifetime and also had siblings from other brands, such as the Nissan Kubistar and Mercedes-Benz Citan. Now it’s just about ready to hit the market in its third evolution, presenting itself as a fully-fledged family of models.

Starting next spring, Renault will be delivering across Europe the third generation Kangoo in no less than five versions if we include the EV derivative. Therefore, the range is now presented – with first pictures and details – as including the Kangoo, Kangoo Van, Express, and Express Van.

Each has its own characteristics – with the passenger and commercial variants sporting the classic Kangoo nameplate going for a more upmarket placement than its Express counterparts. To make sure it properly captures the attention of future customers, Renault is also announcing a couple of new innovations - Easy Side Access and Easy Inside Rack (a retractable gallery that divides interior space).

Both are available on the new Kangoo Van, with the Easy Side Access option deleting the central pillar for “the widest side access on the market” reaching a length of 1,416 mm / 55.74 inches (which is double the size offered by its predecessor).

There are other features designed to make life easier for professionals using the cargo model, such as the new Permanent Rear View digital mirror, Trailer Swing Assist, Brake Stability Control, and AEBS - Advanced Emergency Active Braking.

Meanwhile, the Kangoo is dedicated to dynamic families and professional customers (administrations, local authorities, and associations), bringing the upgraded styling inspired by the latest passenger car models of Groupe Renault, along with additional comfort features and new driver assistance technologies.

Both the Kangoo and Kangoo Van will be produced in Europe, at the company’s Maubeuge factory in France, but the Express and Express Van have been sent outside of the EU for Tangier, Morocco, manufacturing alongside representatives of the Dacia range. Which is probably the reason we’re getting a strong Dacia Dokker vibe from the back, judging by the sole sketch (the yellow one) depicting the rear.

Anyways, the Express Van will be offered alongside the Kangoo / Kangoo Van in Europe, while the passenger version will only be sold on international markets (to be announced) outside the Old Continent. Also, we’re still waiting on details pertaining to powertrain options – they're probably being saved for a new announcement closer to the market introduction.
