2021 Porsche Cayenne GTS Gets V8 Heart, Is Faster Than Before

Who would have thought not long ago that Porsche would make history selling SUVs? The decision to enter this segment has proven to be extremely inspired, as in 2018 for instance the two SUVs in the Porsche lineup, the Cayenne and Macan, pulled the German carmaker to new heights in terms of sales: 71,458 and 86,031 units delivered, respectively.

Sticking to the recipe, Porsche continues to launch as many versions of the two SUVs as it can. This week, it’s time for the Cayenne GTS in both standard and coupe variants to get upgraded. And the biggest change can be found under the hood.

The 3.6-liter V6 engine that has powered the model until now is being replaced with a more potent 4.0-liter V8 that delivers 460 ps and 620 Nm (457.3 lb-ft) of torque.

Linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the engine delivers a tad more power than before, and allows for both models to be 0.6 seconds faster to 100 kph (62 mph) than the current version, when fitted with the Sport Chrono package – the 0-100 kph acceleration for the new GTS is rated at 4.5 seconds. Top speed for the model stands at 270 kph (177 mph).

To match the increase in power from the new engine, Porsche also fitted a new sports exhaust system on the car, the chassis can be lowered by 20 mm, and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus comes as standard.

Visually, the refreshed Cayenne GTS adds satin-gloss black 21-inch wheels, dark-tinted LED headlights and taillights, and black air intakes, side window trims, tailpipes, and even logos. Inside, the SUV comes with exclusive eight-way sports seats, Alcantara all around, and of course GTS logos on the front doors, door entry sills, rev counter and head restraints.

Porsche did not say when the new Cayenne GTS becomes available for order. Full details on the modifications made can be found in the press release section below.
