Ladies and gentlemen drivers, Porsche is almost ready to write another chapter in the history of the 911 Turbo. You see, the 992 incarnation of the Capital T Neunelfer will be released by the end of the year, with engineers currently polishing the final details.
As such, it shouldn't come as a surprise that prototypes are showing up across the world, with the one in the social media post at the bottom of the page being an example as good as any (this was spotted closed to Italy's Stelvio Pass, one of the finest driving roads in the entire world). Note that this test car comes in an earlier form and if you're looking for the latest design, you should check out the prototype in the gallery above.
The 2020 Carrera S is already wider than the car it replaces, but it looks like the posterior of the Turbo will be even more gifted, so perhaps the latter will match the 991.2 GT2 RS in this regard.
Once again, the Turbo will make use of PAA (Porsche Active Aerodynamics), with features such as an active rear wing - note that while the tester we have here seems to be the "stadard" car, the image that leaked earlier this year is believed to protray the Turbo Aerokit.
As far as the oily bits go, the race to meet ever-stricter emission regulations means Zuffenhausen could retire the twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six of the outgoing car. For instance, the carmaker has recently introduced an all-new 4.0-liter N/A flat-six for the 718 Cayman GT4/718 Spyder, with this being loosely based on the twin-turbo 3.0-liter unit of the 992 Carrera S.
Either way, the new Turbo is expected to pack at least 600 horsepower, while the engine will be matted to a Turbo-specific implementation of the new ZF eight-speed gearbox.
We could expect to see the Turbo S becoming the Turbo S E-Hybrid, as it has happened with the Panamera and the Cayenne. Nevertheless, that move may be reserved for the ".2" mid-cycle revamp, which is three to four years away.
Of course, the 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo will be even more suitable for the role of a daily driver, but this is another story for another time.
