MINI is without a doubt enjoying some of its best years. Under the umbrella of BMW, the Brits have grown into a carmaker with a solid fanbase that in turn has evolved with the brand, and is now appreciating things they weren’t accustomed to. Like say performance MINIs.
John Cooper Works (JCW) is how the carmaker spells performance, and the GP revealed last year is the finest example of how much fun a car this size can be with the right hardware on board. But the moniker is used across the MINI range to describe the top-of-the-line models as well.
Last year, MINI introduced in the JCW range the “most powerful engine ever used in a standard MINI:” that’s a 4-cylinder good for 306 hp, an increase of 75 hp over the previous version of the powerplant, and 450 Nm of torque, which translates into an increase of 100 Nm.
In the Countryman, the "race track expertise" used in making it translate into an acceleration time of 5.1 seconds, 1.5 seconds faster than before.
Because the introduction of the new engine was too close to the market launch of the current generation Countryman, MINI did not gift the range back in 2019 with a facelift as well. It did so this week, when it pulled the wraps off the 2021 JCW Countryman.
Packing the same powerplant revealed last year, the new version has been gifted with a new front end, achieved by a redesigned grille and LED lights (the rear ones have been updated as well). New colors are on the table as well - White Silver metallic, Sage Green metallic, and Piano Black Exterior.
Inside, the model gets new accents, but more importantly a new optional 5.0-inch screen behind the steering wheel. The car is equipped with a SIM card that allows it to be always online, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa voice assistant.
MINI plans to launch the new Countryman in November. Prices have not been announced. Full details on the changes can be found in the press release section below.
