We've been following the W223 S-Class since it was but a rumor, and it's amazing to see how far it's come. The first prototypes were just mules based on the outgoing model, but this latest spy video from Germany shows the camo has begun to be peeled off, which signals an official debut is within reach.
This being their best, most advanced car yet, Mercedes are naturally very quiet about the S-Class. But over the past months, we've been able to piece together some important details.

The first thing we learned was that it was going to be longer and wider. Also, you can see many design changes compared to the current generation of Mercedes models, like that C-Class in the background of the video. The headlights have little dots of piercing light, while the grille is quite obviously lower and slightly bulging.

Mercedes is going to debut new door handles which sit flush with the body, much like other luxury manufacturers have begun to offer. From the back, you can just make out the triangular shape of the taillights, which we've also seen in recent renderings.

Engine-wise, the W223 is a card played close to the chest. Not even the abnormal creativity of an auto journalist can help, since the current S-Class already has the latest generation of inline-6 engines with EQ Boost. They might just carry over, adding one or two plug-in hybrids. More gears? Let's hope not, as most Mercedes models already have nine.

V8s will still be around, of course, but you'll need deeper pockets to offset those emissions. Mercedes has already made a hybrid V8 for the GLS 580 which will obviously carry over. It will be interesting to see if the S63 AMG also has little helpers. Some old trademarks hinted that a new performance model will be added, the S73, which would have the 122 HP electric motor added in to give Porsche a run for its money.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
