Following the Vision EQ ForTwo Concept, the Germans at Daimler AG took the veils off the Mercedes-Benz EQ A Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017. Three years later, the EQB will be launched with 60 kWh from the get-go and front-wheel drive.
Hearsay suggests the three-pointed star will bump up the capacity to 110 kWh at some point, and all-wheel drive is on the table as well thanks to a dual-motor drivetrain. The EQC compact hatchback is expected to share these parts with the crossover, and outputs will reportedly range from 204 PS to 340 PS (201 to 335 horsepower).

As you can tell from the high roofline of the lightly camouflaged prototype in the photo gallery, the EQB should make the best out of the available space for those thumpin’ great battery cells. We still don’t know if the packaging will sacrifice the seven-seat option or trunk capacity, but then again, electric vehicles are not perfect either.

The entry-level specification is rumored with 500 kilometers (310 miles) of all-electric range between charges, and that’s close to the Volkswagen ID.3 hatchback with the largest battery available. By 2022, the plan is for Mercedes-Benz Cars to have launched “more than 10 all-electric vehicles” as per former chief exec Dieter Zetsche.

EQC is the name of the first-ever EQ model from Mercedes-Benz, a crossover the size of the GLC with a dual-motor layout and 80-kWh battery. This fellow runs predominantly in front-wheel drive, and the WLTP-rated range is estimated at up to 417 kilometers (259 miles). Over in the United States, make that 220 miles (354 kilometers).

As for exterior design differences between the EQB and GLB on which it’s based, the e-crossover has a closed grille up front, different bumpers, and the rear license plate located on the bumper instead of the trunk lid. If the three-pointed star takes the veils off in a timely fashion, then the newcomer should arrive at dealership lots for the 2021 model year.
