2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan (W206) Makes Spyshots Debut

The battle between BMW and Mercedes is heating up. Just months after the Bavarians blew us away with their all-new 3 Series, the C-Class is looking to retaliate. These are the first spyshots of the model we believe will come out in 2021.

The W206 has only ever been mentioned two other times, and we are surprised to see it jump over the mule phase straight into prototyping. However, Mercedes should take about two years to fully develop this model.

The camouflage is intentionally heavy, allowing us to see only a general design direction, not the actual body. Crucial elements like the hood or trunk are obscured completely. But we can still easily see the CLS III influencing this new C-Class model.

Somebody once compared it to a pebble on the beach, sanded away until it's perfectly shaped. The bold creases down the side of current Mercedes models are gone. However, we won't go as far as to say it's an unconventional look. The W223 S-Class (next-gen) will have hidden door handles, but this doesn't, perhaps for cost reasons. The proportions of the small executive sedan are also quite similar to the current model.

We know that engineers are planning to make extensive use of aluminum to save even more weight. This lighter but stiffer platform is going to be motivated only by mild-hybrid engines.

Yes, you will still be able to buy it with a diesel, and the new 4- and 6-cylinder units developed by Mercedes are the smoothest in the industry. Several powerful plug-in hybrids with about 70 km of EV range will be introduced.

AMG officials hinted that the current C63 S had reached the limit of traction, which could mean one of two things. Either there will only be a six-cylinder C53 like in the case of the CLS, or they are planning to install AWD. Hey, there's nothing to say they can't do both, right?

Lastly, W206 should benefit from all the new tech being developed for the S-Class. Level 3 autonomy means that under certain conditions, the car will drive itself at up to 130 km/h.
