It’s facelift time for the coupe and cabriolet members of the Mercedes’ E-Class family, which in the last week of May received a robust set of changes meant to bring it closer to the customer demands of today. The changes cover not only the Benz E-Class Coupe, but also the AMG incarnation that comes as E 53.
The visual changes when it comes to the AMG are concentrated at the front, where the German designers have fitted “the AMG-specific radiator grille with twelve vertical louvre,” making it both more aggressive and more like its other AMG siblings of today.

Inside, the things that catch the eye the most is the fitting of a new AMG-styled steering wheel and a new display that now runs the carmaker’s MBUX infotainment system.

The engine remains the same six-cylinder 3.0-liter turbocharged that was used until this week, complete with the power upgrade coming from the EQ Boost system: the engine’s standard 435 hp and 520 Nm of torque are increased by an extra 22 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The powertrain is linked to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission and the 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system.

"Following the saloon and estate, our new E 53 4MATIC+ models also offer a perfect synthesis of performance, elegance and comfort as a coupé and cabriolet,” said in a statement Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

“With specific measures on the exterior and in the interior we have re-sharpened the brand identity somewhat and we are continuing to drive forward the revision of our entire E-Class family successively. For lifestyle-oriented customer groups with discerning requirements in terms of performance and efficiency, both two-door models from Affalterbach are the perfect offerings."

The changes made to the Mercedes-AMG E 53 will be found on both the coupe and cabriolet versions of the car. The market launch date and pricing have not been announced.
