It’s “Hypercar assemble!” next week in California, where the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is only days away from kicking off. It is at this event that hypercars the likes of the Pininfarina Battista and Lotus Evija will make their North American debut.
In Evija’s case, the appearance on U.S. soil is of extreme importance because this is the first new Lotus car in ages, and the company’s first electric vehicle. Also, it is an exciting moment for the unnamed American customer that ordered the car as soon as it was presented back in July.

When it presented the car, the British car builder said the Evija is the “most powerful series production road car ever built” and “the most dynamically accomplished model ever built.” But most importantly, it represents a new direction in design for the Brits.

The car packs a Williams Advanced Engineering-developed powertrain, consisting of a 70 kWh lithium-ion battery and four electric motors. The combined output of the motors is 2,000 PS and 1,700 Nm of torque, and the performance figures are under three seconds acceleration time and a top speed of over 200 mph (322 kph).

As per Lotus, the estimated range on a single charge is 250 miles (402 km), and the battery can be refilled to 80 percent capacity in just 12 minutes using a 350 kW plug.

The Evija will hit the roads next year, and only 130 units will be built. Each is priced at £1.7m plus duties and taxes ($2.07 million).

Following its appearance at Pebble Beach, the Evija will travel South to Los Angeles, where it will go on display at the Galpin Lotus store.

“I’m expecting the Lotus Evija to be a huge draw at both locations. They’re famous for playing host to some of the world’s most rare and beautiful cars so that the Evija will be perfectly at home,” said in a statement Russell Carr, Lotus design director.
