Back in June 2019, South Korean carmaker Kia unveiled the Seltos, a brand new SUV meant for the Indian market in particular, but with global aspirations nonetheless. Now that the 2019 Los Angels Auto Show is in full swing, the U.S.-bound version of the car was shown, specced and priced.
The Seltos is supposed to slot between the Soul and Sportage in both size and price, but is overall seen as an entry-level proposition for customers. As such, Kia plans to sell the model in the States starting the early months of next year beginning from under $22,000.
For the American market the vehicle will offer only the two gasoline engines available, and not the diesel. The entry-level, power-wise, is the 2.0-liter four-cylinder MPI that develops 146 horsepower and 132 lb.-ft. of torque, and is linked to an IVT transmission.
The most powerful offering is the turbocharged 1.6-liter GDI, which connected to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) develops 175 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque.
When it was first shown, the Seltos was described as a car for tech-savvy buyers, filled with so many gadgets that it would become impossible for it not to at least make it on a short list of desired cars.
For the U.S., the SUV packs a 10.25-inch touchscreen with satellite radio, UVO telematics, navigation and split-screen display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a variety of connectivity features.
Safety systems are aplenty too, ranging from driver attention warning to rear occupant alert.
The Seltos will be mainly made in India, at the Andhra Pradesh facility for the local buyers, but for other markets the point of origin will be Gwangju, South Korea. The carmaker did not specify where the American version will be made.
