Just as expected, the new F-Type or F-Type second facelift prototypes that we showed you photos of a few days ago were also filmed. Unfortunately, we still can't confirm what kind of engine the important R model uses.
The F-Type saga started back in 2013 with the roadster model which had a V8 making 495 horsepower. Eventually, Jaguar bumped up the power to 550 with the R and eventually gave us the 575 HP SVR, that really pushed what the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 was capable of doing.
But even though this new model sounds like a V8, it doesn't have those crackling sounds at the top end. We were under the impression that the company couldn't force this old configuration to pass newer emissions regulations and was looking for new solutions.
Last fall, rumors started circulation that a deal was struck with BMW, under which Jaguar would have access to the legendary 4.4-liter bi-turbo V8 that powers the M5. So does this F-Type sound like a BMW? We really can't tell, despite the spy footage being quite ample in length. This is also not the inline-6 engine from the RR P400, which sounds like nothing at all.
The easiest tell to pick up on would be the supercharger, but Nurburgring traffic will muffle even something so strong. The other F-Type prototype is less of a mystery, as it has the trademark square exhaust of a "P300", which is a turbocharged 2-liter model.
On the latest Land Rover products, this has been gifted a 48-volt mild hybrid system that... doesn't do much for fuel economy. Obviously, the F-Type will have it as well, even though it adds unwanted weight. But the real eco version of the car is reportedly going to be an EV with the same two motors as the I-Pace pumping 400 ponies.
